Hi Nilros,
Yes, it is possible to use Journal together with Shortcuts, and I still use my “Start My Day” shortcut every day.
The difference is that instead of creating a note in Apple Notes, my shortcut now creates an entry in Apple Journal.
One small limitation is that Journal does not allow entries to be created automatically in the background. Because of that, the shortcut cannot run unattended like it can with Notes. However, that is not a problem for me. I simply run it manually each morning when I wake up.
Another limitation is that, while Shortcuts can create new Journal entries, they cannot add content to an existing Journal entry. I know some people like to append information throughout the day, but that is not something I personally do, so it has not been an issue for me.
For me, moving my journaling to Journal turned out to be a benefit rather than a limitation. I found myself focusing more on the actual journaling and less on maintaining the system.
I also really enjoy the visual aspect of Journal. Photos and short videos appear directly in the timeline as you scroll, which makes looking back on previous days much more enjoyable for me. That way of revisiting memories simply suits me better than reading through pages of text.
I still use Forever✱Notes for all my notes and reference material. Only the journaling part moved to Apple Journal.
If I have some time this coming weekend, I’ll try to take a look at your shortcut.
