Are numbers allowed?

How do folks hear organize notes by date? Or is this a bad practice?

My usage: I’m interested in keeping receipts that apply to transactions in a giving year (ie: 2024). However I may create the note after the 2024 so searching by date created doesn’t work for me in that case..

This hit a breaking point for me because of a strange occurrence with my Notes library. I’ve previously imported notes from Evernote. It allowed a straight numeric tag (ie:2019). When imported this tag was accepted and I can us it within smart folders. But numberic-only tags created within the Notes app don’t work.

I fooled myself initially by placing ‘#2024’ (no quotes) in a note and then later searching for ‘#2024’ notes and this worked fine. But that’s just a unique text string and so it search’s well. But its not recognized as a tag and cannot be utilized in a smart folders.

BruceK I want also to gather all my bills in one collection and then sort it somehow with date without tags

Any ideas?

I just tried Y2024 as a tag in a Quick Note. It worked for me.

Oops, apparently you can't create tags from Quick Notes. I created #Y2024 in an existing note in the Notes folder and it worked.

If the note's date added or modified is not enough, you could put the date into the title and then sort the collection by title. In my date-sensitive records I use the format YYYY/MM/DD. For example if my auto insurance was paid on January 9th, 2024 the title of the invoice note could be:

     2024/01/09 Auto Insurance
