I'd love to see how others have organized their primary system notes. For anyone who has confidently started using Forever Notes, can you share some screenshots?

I feel a bit stuck developing my Hub notes, and have some doubt about how I want to set up my Home. For example, should I list all my projects on “Home”, or create a “Projects” note and link them all there? How about projects I'm doing for clients: should I create a note for each client, and list the client's projects there?

How do you decide if a topic is more appropriate as a Collection vs a Hub? 🤔 How many Hub notes are too many? 🫣 How many levels of nesting? 🤪

quinn One way I decide if it's a Collection vs a Hub is if it's an area of life that has a standard to maintain - usually associated with a role vs just something I'm interested in.

For me: here are the Hubs (or Areas) I've built out so far: Aunt, Daughter, Health, Household, My System, Spiritual, Marriage, Work.

And here are the Collections (or Resources) I've built out so far: Artwork, DIY, Gardening, Productivity, Simcity, Signatures, Woodworking, Yard

The beauty of this system is helping me organize my notes with just the right amount of fiddling. Because I already have extensive daily digital diaries and tracking systems I haven't yet adopted the daily/monthly/quarterly structure of Forever Notes. Because I'm retired I don't really need a complicated system. I use the HOME note as a jumping off point for PROJECTS and areas of interest (hubs). Each HUB has a list of long term tasks and links to reference notes for quick access to information I need in that area. I can reach my COLLECTIONS by tags and search. I have hundreds of notes in folders on the Mac's hard disk. Most of them I don't need anymore and won't be added to my Forever Notes - I use this framework for ongoing activities. Mine is still very much in progress - I used the shortcut to get started. As the set up videos get released I am making changes. I haven’t really figured out the hubs yet, they are mostly empty except for hobbies. Second image shows my smart folders the trips one was just a test and I am yet to build it out. I am happy to take any feedback and suggestions.

I'm fiddling a lot with my setup still.

I've decided my whole digital life into the two main categories PRIVATE and PROFESSIONAL, and for this system I've also begun implementing PROJECTS which I think is a great idea to actually get things done.

I really do like the journal structure/idea of Forever Notes but I already have thousands of entries in Day One which is an amazing app. As for now I do my main journaling in Day One but I still add some short entries into Notes as well. I use the suggested method of headlines except that I add emojis describing country, weather, mood and other things to get a quick overview of that day,

Still have not completely grasped how I should use Hubs vs Collections.
For now collections would for example be a way to list ALL my recipes, while Hubs would be a place to add my favourite ones.

I'll just keep adding to the system and see what works.

patriq I like the way you and BeckyBarnes are thinking. I've had trouble fitting my notes into the PARA structure. My current thinking, subject to change:

Hubs, tabs, and collections are tools for organizing Projects and Areas, how they are used may differ from project to project, area to area.

Projects are activities with a deadline or tangible output
Areas are my responsibilities and roles (thank you, BeckyBarnes!), major areas of interests.
Resources are the notes themselves
Archive - this is where the PARA system falls down for me. At this stage of my life I don't see a need for archiving.

Re. Recipes. It's interesting that almost everyone saves recipes. I'm reminded of my grandmother who in the early 1900s saved recipes cut from newspapers and magazines but hardly ever cooked (she left that to her husband and daughter). My cooking hub has links to notes on general techniques and nutrition. Kind of like the section of a cookbook that has cooking times, equivalents, and conversion tables. At some time I may add links to specific reicipes and useful websites.

In my case I have also made the text larger.
