Clicking Links

Hi everyone,

I have an annoying issue with clicking links. A lot of times, when I click a link, it does not go to the linked note but just inserts the text cursor within the text of the link. No matter how many times I click the link it just moves the cursor within that text. I like to toggle between my notes using the "Back" and "Next" links, for example, in my daily notes, and it becomes frustrating having to click multiple times to get the link to work. At times, I've had to click out of the Notes app and then return to it to get the link to work, and sometimes this doesn't even work. Does anyone else experience this problem? This occurs on my Mac (I rarely use Notes on iPhone or iPad). Thanks for any advice on this!

Def. abnormal behaviour.

My initial troubleshooting would look like this (only proceed to the next step if the problem persists after completing the previous step):

Ensure you have the latest operating system version (MacOS 26.1) (no Beta)
Force quit the app (Option+Command+Esc)
Restart the Mac
Empty cache in (library/caches)
Try it in Mac safe mode
Last resort: Contact Apple Support

My Mac is up to date with the latest OS, and my system shuts down automatically each weekday, so it starts with a clean slate each day, except on weekends when I let it run. This morning, after reading your suggestions, I quit the Notes app and re-launched, and the links are behaving properly, but I suspect at some point during my work today, they will start misbehaving again. Perhaps the app gets fragmented memory or something during the course of the day. I also noticed another issue in the past where, after copying and pasting checklists from one note to another, the clipboard gets messed up, and I have to quit and relaunch Notes in order to be able to copy and paste anything from one note to another. I usually have a few notes open in separate windows so relaunching the app is annoying since I have to reopen all notes I was referring to, but perhaps it's what I have to do from time to time.

Lucky you then for the moment I guess, because once you need Apple Support, you often have to have a loooot of time. 😃

Well, late Apple Notes is a shadow of its former self. Performance and stability have deteriorated over the last few versions. With iOS 26.0, they featured even regular freezes/crashes, improper synchronisation, etc. With 26.1, they have largely ironed that out, but when I think of long formatted notes (subheadings, headings, etc.) and copy something from them, Notes still crashes sometimes. Their lowered quality standard really kinda drives away the magic.
