As a happy user of FN I would like to thank you first for creating the system for us.

I have been using it for several months now and have about 1000 Notes and I use tags rather than groups.

Since recently I find that speed of search has slowed down noticeably. This is more so on my old IPad 3 than one on my iPhone 14 and on my m3 airbook. On th iPad notes uses 8,34 GB IPhone 5,63 GB and on the Mac I could not find it.

On Reddit I found that in Notes pressing command + 3 shows you the annexes of each note. So you can identify the ones with big annexes. Although ai found some big ones I could remove that did not solve the problem. So it must be something else.

I would be very thankful if somebody could look into that and could give me some advice on this.

I don't see any direct connection between large attachements and extended search times. The number of notes you describe can't be a factor either, because 1k notes is virtually nothing.

I think it's the increased complexity of Notes functionality combined with inefficient coding. Whereas years ago the Notes app was fast as usual despite thousands upon thousands of notes, today it is no longer so. For me, the Notes app on all my devices has long been a shadow of its former performance. So far, Apple has not resolved this issue(s). With iOS/MacOS 26, sporadic dysfunctional iCloud synchronisation added up to this heap.

Anyway, sry that I don't have a direct resolution for you.

Thank you. I could spot the Group Container for Apple notes now. 1,81 GB again totally different and a fraction of the size on my iphone and ipad, for whatever reason…

I checked in the meantime to import my notes from notes to Devonthink. However I am not happy on how the import comes out, but see for yourselves. For me it is not an alternative.

Same here. The amount of memory used by the app is reasonable on MacOS, but unreasonably excessive on non-MacOS devices.

"See yourselves" means a screenshot should be attached?
Out of the corner of my eye, I am now also next to "willing to switch" when it comes to Apple's overall performance – so I can understand that very well...

MacOS 26 ruined the app. It's been unstable, using high memory, and laggy ever since.
My notes app was taking up over 40GB in documents and data, when in reality like 4GB was being stored. Never had that problem before, uninstalled and reinstalled/deleted the .com folder etc. and all the advice they give
It's a damn shame, there are a few other people who also had the same problem
