I actually had the same thoughts at first – it felt a bit odd to have notes “about” people I care about, even if the intention is purely kind. So, just to be on the safe side, I decided to lock all of those notes.
In my setup, I have one main note called Friends – that note is locked – and inside it I keep individual notes for each person. That way, nobody can even see the list of names, let alone what’s inside. I can jot down little things we’ve talked about – like where someone’s working now, their kids’ names, or what kind of wine they like – without worrying about anyone stumbling across it.
It helps me be more thoughtful and present when we talk, which was the whole point in the first place. And honestly, once I got past the initial “this feels a bit weird,” it started to feel more like a modern version of remembering birthdays or keeping an address book – just a little more personal and private.
