I like the way you've set up the text and links, very clean like a good kitchen. How do you share the recipes with assistants?

(I should really study the language. My sister in law is Dutch, well Limburger to be precise, as is my mother's family which came from Sittart/Wehr-Tudden area.).

Interesting. But for me it's a case of overmanagement. I also have my recipes in notes, but with the search function you just enter 1-2 letters and you're done. Linking everything like this requires imho more effort than benefit. But hey, if this fits you…

tr4jan I definitely understand what you mean, it works for me at the moment with a short cut on my phone to the recipe page with works great for me.

CatarinaDK looks great i mostly use it for the restaurant were i work as a chef i can share the recipes easily between my colleagues. And we never lose the recipe anymore or the paper gets dirty for me/us it works amazing. Your system looks great though

Looks like a really nice system. Thanks for sharing. I used to use Apple Notes for recipes, but it became a huge pain in the neck to format recipes from the internet in a consistent way in Apple Notes. How do you handle this issue?

For years around I have a template that includes:

Preparation
Source

Since nothing is faster than copy&paste from whatever source, what's causing you pain? You probably don't have such a template, or?

SillyCorgan most of the time i just write it in my own words or copy the text and make it my own a bit so it fits in my tamplate.

tr4jan The main issue is the formatting I get from the web. Even with HTML stripping, it was a lot of messing around to make it look right. I know it’s possible, I did it for years. But having a dedicated recipe app that has built in tools to do this automatically was my choice. I totally get the value of doing it in Apple Notes, though.

You may not realise that you just need a simple shortcut to insert text into Apple Notes in the target format. It is

‘Option+Shift+Command+V’, which corresponds to “Paste and Adjust Style”.

I've used AN for recipes for many years.

I will copy and paste or screenshot from websites. For YouTube, if the recipe isn't in the text below the video, I'll feed the transcript into an AI program to create a recipe. Sometimes I'll just dictate something into AN and be done with it. Magazine? Just scan it with AN on the iPhone

To me, the key is in tagging and using search.

No folders: just a tag #recipe on each one solves the filing task.
I use other tags to search for attributes that may not be in the text of the recipe, such as #asian #quick #vegan #mustcook #excellent [so I can find the ones that turned out great] #airfryer #dinnerparty and so on.

So if I have broccoli and mushrooms and want to make a quick stir-fry, I just seach for #asian #stirfry broccoli mushrooms.

Low effort, high reward.

It's even more lean without (countless) tags. Each of my recipes contains the word ‘recipe’ and the AN search does the trick. 😉

tr4jan Totally agree with tag parsimony.

I have 716 recipes now in my Smart Folder. I only use tags for things that aren't in the recipe or accompanying documentation. So when my partner says "Can you make that Thai chicken dish that was so good," I don't need to search through more than 70 chicken recipes.

I just search for chicken #asian #excellent and there it will be among the 3 out of 70 that show up.

Tagging is a personal venture.
